1st Cape Town Free Chapter

What a brilliant way to celebrate the end of a brilliant year for the brilliant Free Chapter Cape Town! The year 2013 has been punctuated with many highlights. We met at the Castella Amare restaurant on Melkbos beach for a nourishing breakfast before setting off on a signature ride in glorious weather up the West Coast, via Langebaanweg and Malmesbury to Riebeek West. Our inimitable Activities Officer, Marianna outdid herself by arranging the event at the quaint Riebeek Valley Hotel, a tranquil and stylish country retreat with sweeping views of the picturesque vineyards, olive groves and majestic Kasteelberg Mountains.

After checking in, the members chilled on the stoep around the pool, entertained by the dulcet tones of Jesse, reserving energy for the evening's activities. Dressed in our biker's best we gathered in the tastefully decorated convention room and feasted sumptuously on the starter course. Carl provided high quality music that covered a wide range. Joe Watkins kindly sponsored the bar bill.

Chapter Director Bwana du Toit then reminded us of the events of the past year, including 2 new marshals, new members, a number of charity initiatives, skills and first aid training plus the many brilliant rides undertaken. Also very importantly is the bond of friendship formed and strengthened during the year.

Assistant Director Manna Newman then joined Bruce in handing out various awards, both serious and humorous. After a lucky draw was done, birthday girl Marietjie chose Alan Joffe as the MO-stache competition winner.

This was followed by main course, dessert and dancing to finish off a wonderful evening.

The following morning after a great country breakfast, we headed back home with a brief detour to Riebeeck-Kasteel and the traditional milkshake stop. A memorable way to end a memorable year. Bring on 2014!
